Copyright Notice

All rights reserved.
Rationale and Summary
This copyright notice is designed to protect everyone's freedom to
modify and use this material, without misrepresenting its original form.
It restricts your ability to do things that prevent others from using it;
and it limits your ability to publish it wholesale.
Summary: I want you to use this. I want you to give
away copies of it (without essential modifications) for other people to
use. I don't mind if you change it for your own use, but I don't want my
name on your changes. And I do not want anyone to do anything, legally or
technically, that would interfere with other people's use of it. By the
way, if you make a sound recording based on it, I'd like to hear it.
("Now you can put your foot down: all the rest is detail.")
Copyright Status of This Material
These plans are obviously "derivative works" in that they depend on
Bible translations, hymns, and tunes that someone else created. I believe
that all of the material included here is in the public domain or within
fair use under United States law.
A few mentioned hymns mentioned are still under copyright.
These will usually be in the standard hymnals. To use a plan with
copyrighted material not in your hymnal, you can either obtain
permission to make copies of the sheet music from the copyright owner,
omit the hymn, or substitute another hymn.
All included sheet music is believed to be in the public domain.
The music itself is in the public domain; I formatted the scores using
Noteworthy Composer, and hereby release them also into the public domain.
You may do anything at all with them.
In other countries, some of this material may still be under copyright,
and therefore I cannot grant you the right to distribute or use it. You
need to understand and comply with local laws. If local law conflicts
with my requirements for redistribution, then you may delete the bare
minimum required to comply with local law, leaving a note in the plan
"material under copyright".)
Definitions
- Formal Additions
- Additional files, or added content in the existing files, to make the
material more usable or convenient in some environment, but without
interfering with other uses. Examples are:
- Adding song numbers for another hymnal, to the existing files;
- Adding files containing handouts formatted for particular computer
programs or particular occasions of use.
- Adding links on the index page to additional files that you distribute
with these files.
- Removing material under copyright in your jurisdiction, replacing it
(if Bible text) with the same verses from another version or (if hymn
verses) with a note "hymn text under copyright."
- Derivative Plans
- Worship plans, presentations, or recordings based on one of these
plans, but with changes (including choices between options included in
the plans). This includes a printed copy (which doesn't preserve the
dynamic options of the HTML file) or a sound recording (because it only
instantiates one of several different alternatives of hymns) or a file
in the proprietary format of some word processor (which can't be used
by someone who hasn't paid for that software).
- Content Additions
- Other similar or related material (such as additional plans,
derivative plans, sheet music, or commentary) that you have the right
to distribute, and that you are willing to distribute with these files
under the same copyright terms.
- Attribution
- A copyright notice in one of these forms:
- For a plan with only Formal Additions: a statement of
the form "Copyright © 1996-2004, Stephen Hutcheson. Used by
permission." as generated by printing the HTML file through a
JavaScript-enabled browser.
- For a derivative plan: a statement of the form
"Copyright © 1996-2004, Stephen Hutcheson; adaptation, Copyright
© 2001 John Doe. Used by permission." -- as would be formatted
by adding your name and the date ("2001, John Doe") as a parameter to
the javascript "tail()" function. (This specifies that you have modified
the plan.)
- For an Additional plan: a statement specifying its
author and copyright status. The details of that status are entirely
up to the author, and nothing here should be taken to limit his choice
of distribution or his way of offering copyright privileges.
- For notes added to one of these files: the author's name in brackets
at the end of the note, with optional copyright notice. i.e.
[John Doe] or [note, Copyright © 2001, John Doe.] or
You may make the copyright notice a hyperlink to a file or web page that
describes what rights you are granting.
-
- References to web pages or files not distributed or published with
these files.
Modification for Personal or Group Use is Permitted
You may do any of these things, as often as you wish:
- Use one of these plans, or a derivative plan,
in any assembly, for worship or study. You may distribute printed copies
of it to everyone in attendance. (But this does not give permission to
distribute a derivative plan beyond that assembly unless you are willing
that people should have this right to your work also.)
- Use, modify, copy, or publish the sheet music without any
restriction. (It is public domain except for the transcription itself,
which I did: and which I release into the public domain.
Casual Copying of Unmodified Files is Permitted
You may do any of these things, as often as you wish:
- Make a copy (either printed or electronic form) of this entire
directory (possibly with formal or content additions), and
give that copy to anyone.
- Use, distribute, and communicate HTML, CSS, or Javascript
(scripts, functions, methods, or techniques) from these files for any
purpose whatsoever. Insofar as they are protectable by copyright, I
release them into the public domain.
- Modify, use, or distribute the sheet music without restrictions.
- Make a sound recording of one of these plans, and distribute
single copies of it.
Publication is Conditionally Permitted
Before mass-copying or publishing this material beyond what is described
above, please attempt contact me for permission. I will happily grant any
request that maintains the integrity and usability of the material. But in
case I am not able to respond, the following terms may serve your need.
You are conditionally granted the right to publish and
distribute copies of these plans in any medium (including a
website or audio recording), provided that you fulfill all of these
requirements:
- Have beforehand made a good-faith effort to contact me (by all means
listed below) to request specific permission to publish, and have received
no response from me within a month.
- Distribute the entire content of this directory in computer-readable
form, unchanged (except possibly for formal additions.)
[This restriction does not apply to sound recordings.]
- Distribute copies not-for-profit; or as a minor part of
a large aggregate of content which might be distributed for profit.
- Impose no technical impediment to use, revision, or distribution:
Impediments would include (but not be limited to) encryption, hardware
access control devices, software digital distribution restriction schemes,
proprietary file formats, etc.
- Include appropriate attribution, with the latest
contact information for me that you have.
- Clearly grant and communicate these same rights to this and all
derivative content distributed with these plans.
- Do not claim or grant rights that interfere with any exercise of
these rights from a copy deriving from your distribution.
- Do not add external links of any kind,
except as described under "attribution."
